Making a Splash

Summer Term

Our theme in Summer Term  1 is 'Ticket to Ride'

This half term the children have learnt about different modes of transport and how they have changed over time. We learnt the song 'The Journey Home from Grandpa's' and the children created pictures of their favourite vehicle form the story.

The children have had the opportunity to design and create their own vehicles using a wide range of small and large construction kits and junk modelling materials. We have some wonderful designers in EYFS who have created some wonderful models!

During this half term, we went on a journey to our local library to listen to stories and songs linked to our theme of transport. Once the children were back at school they created maps of the journey they had made. We also walked to Bridlington Train Station to observe a train arriving and departing out of the station and had the opportunity to look around the station.

The children enjoyed learning about Space and the astronaut Tim Peake. They listened to the stories, 'Whatever Next' and 'Aliens Love Underpants' and created their own aliens and rockets.

Our theme in Summer Term 2 is 'Fun at the Seaside'

This half term the children have learnt about our seaside town and have compared Bridlington to other seaside places. We located seaside places they have visited on a map and have looked at how Bridlington has changed over time. We enjoyed a visit to the beach creating sculptures in the sand and decorated them with pebbles and shells. The children enjoyed decorating stones and writing messages in the sand, then cooled off at the end of the day by having a paddle in the sea!

The children have listened to stories linked to the seaside and have created art work linked to various stories. The children learnt about different sea creatures and made observational drawings of fish and shells.  The children also enjoyed our Pirate themed week, especially coming to school dressed up as pirates for the day!

Seaside Art

This half term the children used their colour mixing skills to create a seaside painting using oil paints and pastels. We looked at seaside paintings by various artists and photographs we took during our day at the beach. The children also made observational drawings of shells and using the text 'Mr Seahorse' as a stimulus for their art work, the children used oil pastels and printing techniques to create a sea creature, then using collage materials, they camouflaged the creature they had drawn.

Our Holiday to Mexico!

The children packed their suitcases with all their holiday essentials and arrived at school ready to check in at Bay Airlines, before jetting off to Mexico. On arrival, they enjoyed listening to traditional  music then headed off straight to the beach where they unpacked ready to explore the sand and water! The children enjoyed sampling Mexican food, before heading off to Kids Club for party games, karaoke and a disco! At the end of the trip, the children packed their bags and headed back to the airport to catch the last flight back home.
