Bay Primary School
Making a Splash
At Bay Primary School, we are committed to enhancing our students' mathematical skills. As part of this mission, we participated in the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) project, which focused on supporting the teaching of essential maths skills. Following a successful pilot, we are delighted to offer daily Mastering Number sessions in both Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1 (KS1), continuing into the first term of Year 3.
This initiative is designed to establish a solid foundation for developing strong numerical understanding in all children. Our aim is for children to leave KS1 with not only fluency in calculation but also confidence and flexibility with numbers. We have specifically addressed the key knowledge and understanding necessary in Reception classes, ensuring a well-structured progression through KS1 to foster long-term success in mathematics. We believe this approach will prepare our pupils for their future educational journey.
