Making a Splash

Autumn 1

Welcome to Bay Primary School’s Maths Blog – the place where we update regularly to share with you the excellent Maths opportunities that the children here at Bay Primary School will have throughout the year.  For those of you who are regular visitors to my blog – welcome back and for those of you who are new to this, I hope you enjoy.

Maths around the school

Please find below photographs of the Maths we have displayed around our school currently.  I have also taken some photographs of children mid-Maths lesson.

Maths Charter

At Bay Primary School we aim to ensure that all children Master Maths learning through a Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract approach to the teaching and learning of Mathematics whilst offering opportunities for all children to practise varied fluency; reasoning skills and problem solving in a mathematically rich environment.

Please find below a link to our new Maths Charter – an A4 document that provides you with details of the expectations of Mathematics teaching and learning at Bay Primary School.

Pupil Ambassadors

This year, each class have voted for, and selected, 2 children to form our Pupil Ambassador committee.

Also, NEW this year are the roles and responsibilities offered to the Year 6 Ambassadors. As part of these roles, the Year 6 Ambassadors were asked to complete an application form for the following roles: Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary. Please see attached form for the application example and summary of responsibilities.

Chairperson - Woody, Vice Chairperson - Aston, Treasurer - Lexie, Secretaries - Yasar and Hayley.

Our first meeting took place at the beginning of the half term where we discussed our Action Plan.  This year, we have decided to focus on improving our Outdoor Area provisions with the aim being to increase the amount of time we use the outdoors within our teaching.  Please re-visit next half term for more details.

Rock Star Day

What a success!  We cannot thank Mr Taylor enough for the spectacular performance he gave us to help re-launch our whole school approach to Times Tables Rock Stars.  Please see the photographs below to get a flavour of what the day consisted of.

Children from Year 2 and upwards should now have their own logon details for TT Rockstars.

Masters of Maths

CONGRATULATIONS to this half term’s Masters of Maths.

Maths Club

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Year 2 Maths Club for a fun-filled half term.  Maths Club has had a great impact on the progress that the children have made this half term in Maths which is a reflection of their resilience, perseverance and excellent attitude that all children displayed during Maths Club.

Thank you for reading.
